Maud Simonet

Maud Simonet is a research director in sociology at the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research), affiliated with IDHE.S (UMR 8533) at the University of Paris Nanterre. Her research, conducted in France and/or the United States, focuses on volunteer work, service work, workfare, and activation policies, and more broadly on the processes that render labor invisible, as well as the contemporary forms and stakes of unpaid labor.

She is the author of L’imposture du travail. Désandrocentrer le travail pour l’émanciper (The Imposture of Work: De-centering Work to Emancipate It), published in 2024 by Éditions 10/18, Travail gratuit, la nouvelle exploitation ? (Unpaid Work: The New Exploitation?) published by Textuel in 2018, and Who Cleans the Parks? Public Work and Urban Governance in New York City (with John Krinsky), published by the University of Chicago Press in 2017.
